The pandemic sweeping across the globe has everyone a bit cautious and some others in a panic. So many articles and advice out there telling people not to panic, just stay aware of social distancing and wash your hands thoroughly and sanitize the things people touch like cell phones, door knobs, etc. Many businesses are reducing their hours of operation, limiting the ability for crowd gatherings, voluntary and mandatory self isolation from others, being diligent with sanitation. These are all steps being taken to reduce the spread of the virus.
This is all great, but what about filing your taxes? When this question has a clear answer of health and safety before taxes, you’re right. File an extension. Filing an extension will give you more time to file your taxes once this virus has slowed its course and people can get back to living their lives without fear. Although our government has not made any provisions yet for people filing their taxes late, filing an extension will at least give you more time to file. However, remember that filing an extension does not give you more time to pay your taxes which are due by April 16th. So if you anticipate owing money for taxes, file an extension and make a payment online before the April 16th deadline.
Our office is open for business during this time. We can file extensions for you, help guide you in making payments online, and can do much of filing tax returns via email, phone, and/or fax without you having to come into the office. Our office sanitizes every day and disinfects thoroughly as extra precautions.
Keep safe.
