Many people who have Facebook accounts can affirm that there have been a number of memes, jokes, and stories posted that highlight the good, the bad, and the ugly of 2020 thus far. We are currently in a pandemic with COVID-19 that has killed over 100,000 people and still claiming lives. Some people believe it’s just another flu virus and calling it a hoax. Others believe this corona virus is the worst they have ever seen or experienced and people should take steps to stay safe and shelter in place. Most take precautions against catching the virus and spreading it, while others disregard the precautions for themselves and others ignoring the advice of doctors/nurses and those who have seen first-hand the devastation COVID-19 brings to human health.
We have had major flooding, tornados, hurricanes, earth quakes, and other natural disasters in 2020. Although we have had these natural disasters in the past, it seems to hit harder for 2020 since the world wide pandemic. People are already stretched to their capacity with job loss and stress of how to pay the bills and put food on the table.
Then we incur yet another pandemic outcry that has plagued human kind for years, racism. The loss of life is sad, but when it’s the loss of a life that could have been prevented, people get outraged and want justice. Peaceful protesting began as an outcry for justice, but yet rioters come into the cities wreaking havoc causing damage, looting, beating/killing innocent people and destroying and stealing property that others have taken their lifetime to build.
These are definitely the Bad and the Ugly of our times right now. Some people can be bad because they have ugly hearts. Some people can be very ugly because they are self-serving. But let me tell you about the Good…
“When times are at its best, human kind are at their worst, but when times are at their worst, human kind are at their best” (Starman). Good people come together to help each other in times of crisis and there are a lot of Good people out there. Good people volunteering their time to help doctors and nurses in other states because of over capacity of patients. Good people volunteering to make lunches and food for people in need. Good people donating food, time, and money to help others. Good people volunteering to clean up the cities and businesses after rioters left devastation. People with Good hearts come together, and that is what love is. Good hearted people make the world Good.
Our world may have bad things happening right now, some people being ugly and doing bad things, but it’s the Good that will overcome.
You have a choice whether to be Good, Bad, or Ugly. You choose.
